LSU Football: Brian Kelly Delivers Final Injury Report, John Emery Update
USA TODAY Sports

Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers are just two days away from their season opener against the Florida State Seminoles as both programs gear up for a Top 10 showdown in Orlando.

For the Tigers, this group will be as healthy as ever for Week 1 with only three plays unavailable against the Seminoles.

LSU coach Brian Kelly provided an injury report ahead of Sunday with a status update on running back John Emery as well:

Injury Report

LSU running back Armoni Goodwin will be the lone Tiger unavailable on Sunday due to injury as he continues getting back to game speed. The junior back missed all of spring camp and most of fall camp with Kelly and Co. remaining cautious with his return.

Senior running back Josh Williams will be available after previously being listed as probable as will offensive lineman Kimo Makane’ole.

LSU will be without, in total, three players against the Seminoles: Goodwin (injury), Maason Smith (suspension) and John Emery (undisclosed reasons).

John Emery's Status

Kelly detailed that Emery is in good standing with the LSU football program as he continues getting his academics in check. Despite this, the fifth-year senior will be unavailable for Week 1 and Week 2 of the season.

Emery is set to return for Week 3 against Mississippi State, Kelly said on Thursday.

Secondary

Another tidbit Kelly detailed in his final press conference ahead of the season opener was on the secondary. It’s a group many have labeled as the “weak link” and this program remains confident in their guys.

“I just think these guys have competed really well against top notch receivers,” Kelly said on Thursday. “They’re ready to go play someone else. They know they have a great challenge ahead of them with the wide receivers at Florida State and will all year.

“This is a group that has to communicate well together and I think we’re in a better place than we were last year because the communication is so much better.”

The LSU Tigers are roughly 48 hours away from one of the most anticipated matchups of the season as both programs prepare to hit the road to Orlando for the showdown in Camping World Stadium.
